Eagle Robotics at FTC League Tournament
January 25, 2020 The Eagle Robotics teams hosted and competed in the Western Georgia League Tournament on January 25th, at Mount Paran Christian School. Each team fought hard from beginning to end with the hope of advancing to the State Championship. Starting in the qualification matches, Team 7373 soared to the top and ended the qualification round in 1st place. Following shortly behind, Team 11364 ended the qualification matches in 12th place. After the qualification round was completed, the teams moved into alliance selection. With their top ranking, Team 7373 selected two alliance partners for the semifinals. Then, because of their strong showing in the qualification matches, Team 11364 was a first pick to play in the semifinals as an alliance member. During the semifinals, Team 7373 and their alliance partners suffered major mechanical issues. This ended the team’s time in the robot matches. However, Team 11364 played well throughout both the semifinals and the finals. This led to Team 11364 and their alliance winning the robot game and securing their spot at the State Championship. After the robot matches were complete, Team 11364 had a secure spot at the State Championship. However, the same could not be said for Team 7373. They would be reliant on the awards ceremony. As the ceremony began, Team 11364 was called as the 3rd place recipient of the Think Award, yet Team 7373’s name was not being called. Then, finally, the Inspire award rolled around. Team 7373 was called as the 1st place winner of this award, making them the top team advancing to the State Championship. As a result of the hard work put in both before and during competition day, both Team 7373 and Team 11364 would be advancing to the State Championship. |
Throughout the tournament, there was one core idea of the team that was more important than any award given at the end of the day. This was the idea of service to the surrounding teams. Eagle Robotics members helped their fellow teams through acts of service that included anything from performing robot repairs to writing computer code. These actions allowed every team in attendance to perform at the highest level possible, making the tournament a rewarding experience for everyone in attendance.

FTC Georgia State Championship February 22, 2020 Less than a month after the League Tournament, Teams 7373 and 11364 traveled to the Cobb Civic Center to compete in the Georgia State Championship. Here, teams would be battling for a spot at the World Championship, making it one of the most important events of the season. The competition began in the qualification matches, with Team 7373 leading the way in the Kilrain division. The team won every qualification match with an average autonomous score of 49 points and TeleOp score of 60 points. In the Pemberton division, Team 11364 fought hard through every match and ended the qualification round with a positive record. These outcomes led both teams into alliance selection with a positive outlook on the rest of the day. When alliance selection began, Team 7373 held the top spot in the Kilrain division, allowing them to choose their alliance partners for the semifinals of their division. This strong alliance allowed the team to overcome their competitors in the semifinals of the Kilrain division. In the semifinals of the Pemberton division, Team 11364 competed with the alliance that selected them. Team 11364’s alliance fought hard in the semifinals, but their day was ended with those matches. |
As a result of their successes in the semifinals of the Kilrain division, Team 7373 advanced to the finals for the division. The team won two of the three matches in the finals, allowing them to move on to the finals of the entire event. Here, Team 7373’s alliance would compete against the winning alliance from the Pemberton division. This would be a series of three matches between the finals six teams of the forty-eight at the competition.
In their final match, where Team 7373 Carbon Fiber was paired with Team 10219 Batteries Not Included and Team 16633 Bots in Black (a rookie team!). Team 7373 started the game with a yellow card but was taking the lead into the TeleOP portion of the match where it would be a back-and-forth close match between both teams until one robot on each alliance malfunctioned, making it a 1 versus 1 for the last match of the state championship. The matches began with a decisive victory for Team 7373, giving them a slight edge over the competition. However, as the second match began, Team 7373’s alliance fell short, losing the match by four points. This meant that the final match would determine the winner of the robot game at the State Championship. When the final match began, Team 7373 ran with their first pick from alliance selection. In the middle of the match one robot went down on the blue alliance, then one on the red. Navigating multiple obstacles in this final match, including a robot blocking their way of scoring points, Team 7373 rose above to finish the competition. They even bulldozed their lifeless alliance partners into a scoring zone as time expired. As the judges tallied the points, the team rallied together to wait for the outcome. Finally, it was announced; Team 7373 had won the robot game. This win secured the advancement to the World Championship. Yet the day was not over for Team 7373 as the awards ceremony rolled around. The team had already secured a spot to the World Championship, but each team member hoped to take home an award for their work off the field. Awards slipped by with no mention of Team 7373 until the Inspire Award winners were called. It was at this time that Team 7373 was announced as the 1st place Inspire Award winner. This award allowed Team 7373 to advance as the top team from the State Championship. As both the captain of the winning alliance in the robot game and the 1st place Inspire Award winner, Team 7373 would advance to the World Championship.
